The Children's Choral Capella, based on the city's oldest children's choral association "Musical and Choral Studio" of the Children's (Youth) Creativity Center named after L. Golikov, is a leading creative group in the system of additional musical and choral education in Novgorod region. Hundreds of boys and girls have got the primary music education within 35 years' existence of the Choral Capella.

The educational process is provided by highly qualified teachers who form the versatile musical and performing qualities in their young pupils.

With the same interest children sing in the choir and the ensemble, acquire the skills of playing musical instruments purposefully and widely participate in the concert activities of the choir. Concerts in the cathedrals and in the concert halls of the Novgorod State United Museum have already become traditional. The choir has been awarded the title of laureate and winner of grand prix of prestigious national and international choral forums.

The choir's repertoire covers a wide temporal and stylistic range of both Russian and foreign heritage of choral music. The participants of the choir perform with pleasure music of the Renaissance, orthodox chants, secular and spiritual works by classic and contemporary composers, national songs and choral versions of popular songs.

ASTRUM TENERUM vocal ensemble:

The ASTRUM TENERUM vocal ensemble was founded in 1999 on the basis of the senior choir.

All the ensemble members are the graduates of the Children's Choral Capella of Veliky Novgorod. During the years of creative activity the choir has repeatedly won the highest awards of national and international choral competitions and festivals.

Nowadays the young musicians, studying in various universities, continue to do what they like under the direction of Yuri Nikiforov.

Working in a difficult a cappella genre, the ensemble performs the best works of the Renaissance, West European and Russian sacred music, national songs along with the versions of instrumental pieces, works of classical jazz and popular music of the 20th century

The director of the chamber choir of the Children's Choral Capella of Veliky Novgorod is Yuri Nikiforov.

Yuri Nikiforov, who is a graduate of the Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory, has been directing the Children's Choral Capella of the Children's (Youth) Creativity Center named after L. Golikov and senior concert choir since 1997.

During its creative team work the choir has repeatedly become the winner of national and international competitions and festivals.

Yuri Nikiforov was awarded the prize of the best conductor at the International Festival of Church Music in Hajnówka (Poland) in 2002. He also received the title of laureate of the conducting competition at the IX and X Moscow International Children’s and Youth Choir Festival "Moscow Sounds" in 2006 and 2008.

In addition to the work in the Choral Capella, Yuri Nikiforov heads the student choir of Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University.
