An orchestra of Russian folk instruments was established in February 2001. In May 2004 by order of Committee of culture and tourism of Novgorod region it was named after its creator V.G. Babanov. He was teaching in Novgorod musical college and founded the school of perporming folk music in Novgorod region.

During 5 years of work the orchestra created more that 10 theme programs, which were made considering the age of audience and their level of perception, and gave more than 300 concerts.

The orchestra is extremely popular among youth. An important role plays here the young age of the performers that brings them closer to youth audience and makes educational intentions more convincing.

The orchestra of Russian folk instruments named after V.G. Babanov is an example of devotion to what they are doing, ardent promotion of folk music and continuing tradition of playing Russian folk instruments. Musicians are always ready to improve their performing skills, stage culture and to expand their musical ideology. All this is assisted by active cooperation with representatives of Russian musical art.

A relatively young orchestra has already been respected by colleagues and people working in the culture of Novgorod region for reliability, high ability to work and also anxious attitude to their profession. Concert repertoire is made taking into account regional component. By promoting the works of composers-compatriots (S. Rakhmaninov, A. Lyadov, A, Arensky, N. Rimsky-Korsakov) the orchestra contributes to the patriotic education of people in Novgorod region, glorifying their homeland. It also makes us feel proud for our land and its wonderful people.
