Porcelain Museum In Veliky Novgorod is the exposition that brings an impression of the Novgorod porcelain tradition combined with new technologies, multimedia “miracles”, author’s installations, informative programs, master-classes, celebrations and festivals.
The museum is the winner of the 6th Grant contest “Changing Museum in the Changing World”. The contest is held by V. Potanin Charitable Fund with the assistance of Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and operational management of the Association of Cultural Managers (ACM).
Porcelain Museum is situated on the territory of Desyatinny Convent which is a historical landmark of the 14-19 century in the center of Veliky Novgorod at the distance of 3 yards from the Kremlin. The complex includes one of the art centers of Veliky Novgorod. Porcelain Museum is full of modern multimedia and author’s installations. The interior has a shape of a furnace and lets you move into the atmosphere of a porcelain workshop; there are burnt bricks, feeling of heat and fire alongside with sparkling porcelain ware. The exposition united the glorious historical past of Kyznetsovsky porcelain tradition with the Soviet period one that is with the cobalt-plated products which became a trademark of Novgorod masters.
There are interactive programs organized for children, adults and family groups: master-classes of porcelain painting, excursion to the ceramic shop “Magic furnace”; family celebration – “Tea Yard”; “Museum Tea Parties” for elderly people.
“Magic plate” - workshops on souvenir painting is a unique opportunity to make a wonderful souvenir yourself, such as decorative porcelain plate (a tea pair, a handbell, an Easter egg) with author’s painting, to get to know splendid Kuznetsovsky porcelain tradition and to reveal the secrets of porcelain production. During a master-class visitors can paint a porcelain plate themselves with the assistance of an artist, put a personal mark on it and take it with them.
An interactive excursion “Travel in Desyatinny Convent” is an opportunity to get to know the history and architecture of Desyatinny Convent, “to see” (interactively) ruined Sacred Orthodox Places (Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary of 14 century, Church of All Saints of the 19 century), to visit the places where in 1170 the famous battle between Novgorod and Suzdal took place (the miraculous icon of Our Lady of the Sign brought a victory to Novgorod, according to the wide-spread legend).The excursion includes a visit to the exhibition halls of the museum.
