Located in the halls of the three tiers Gate Tower, the unique exhibition displays over 300 masterpieces of “artistic metal”. These are mostly crosses, amulets, miniature icons and church items. The viewing point of the Gate Tower provides a panoramic view of the city.
The Marketplace and the Gate Tower for it were designed and built in the late 17th century by a stone mason Gury Vakhromeev, who also designed and built the first stone bridge over the Volkhov River and the Prechistenskaya Tower of the Kremlin. Later on the Marketplace was reconstructed several times. As a result, the 17th century Gate Tower and the Arcade of the Marketplace - built in the second half of the 18th century – appear to be the only fragments of it that have survived to this day.
