The Center of Musical Antiquities carries out a scientific program on restoring forms and sounding of ancient musical instruments, dated by 10th - 15th cc, evidences of which the archeologists have found in the old part of Veliky Novgorod. The treasury of European and World importance, the main base of the primary sources of the Russian people's musical past has been formed here. The founder and director of the Center was Honored Worker of Culture of Russia, Honorary Citizen of Veliky Novgorod, art restorer Vladimir Povetkin.

The Center also provides cultural program. At celebrations and special lectures and concerts you can hear legendary gusli, toots, sopilka as well as choir singing in traditional dress. Choir diector - Natalia Popova.

In the Center you can hear songs and folk-tunes of Novgorod, Pskov, Arkhangelsk, Vologda and other regions, learn to make gusli and traditional clothes, get advices on many crafts. Your knowledge of lullabies, children's and teen games will be an important first step into the world of folk wisdom. Learning more about authentic ancient ritual songs and instrumental music is one of the best ways to realize the ideals of national culture and way of life that, being so typical to countless Russian settlements, was the foundation of our Statehood and our national self-dignity.
